ULA Launches Second NRO Satellite on Delta 4 Heavy

2017-05-15
United Launch Alliance launched the second of two classified spy satellites for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office(NRO) from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., the launch company announced Jan. 21.
A ULA Delta 4 Heavy rocket carried the satellite, which is now on route to its polar-orbit destination. The first NRO satellite launch took place at the Cape Canaveral launch facility in Florida late last year.
“The critical NRO payload launched today will significantly enhance the effectiveness and safety of the brave men and women defending our nation every day. Today's successful launch represents the culmination of five years' hard work and exceptional skill in modifying the launch system to establish the west coast heavy lift capability for the nation and to integrate this important mission,” ULA Vice President Jim Sponnick said in a statement.
ULA’s next launch is scheduled for on March 4, when it will loft the Atlas 5 Orbital Test Vehicle-2 for the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office at Cape Canaveral.
